German American Citizens Association of Kansas City

The German Citizens Association is organized for charitable, educational and social purposes; for promotion of the German heritage, language and culture in a friendly, social environment.

The members of the German-American Citizens Association (GACA) would like to acquaint you with the purpose of our Club, its goals, and the civic and ethnic functions, and our social activities.

The Club presents dance parties, September through May, which are an excellent entertainment value, with several hours of German and popular dance music performed by a band. Often these dances have a theme, such as Fasching Dance, Maifest, Oktoberfest, Weinfest and a New Years Eve Party. Food is usually available, catered by a business with knowledge of German food preparation.

In the summer the Club has a picnic and Schuetzenfest for members and guests. There is entertainment and contests for adults and children. Prizes are awarded, along with lots of food and drink. Also in the fall, we have Kristkindlmarkt which is the Christmas Craft Fair.

A particular favorite is our annual Children’s Christmas Party where they are encouraged to sing or display a special talent. Saint Nikolaus visits this event, and his bag of stockings filled with surprises.

The club takes part in the Ethnic Enrichment Festival, which is sponsored by the City of Kansas City, MO.

From time to time the GACA sponsors a visit by groups or a bands from Germany who come to share their talents and experience America.

The Ladies Auxiliary meets from September to May monthly to socialize as well as plan and conduct fund raisers for charitable organizations.

Officers are elected at the annual General Membership Meeting in November. The President chairs monthly Board Meetings all year to conduct the business of the Club. These Board Meetings are open to all members. A regular quarterly newsletter is sent by email and/or mail to all members and inform them of club events and other matters of interest.
